The Problem

Industrial automation engineering is still built by hand.

The workflow from concept to commissioning remains highly fragmented. Control engineers spend thousands of hours on repetitive tasks across disconnected tools, while organizations face severe talent shortages and margin erosion.

Tool Fragmentation

P&IDs, electrical schematics, tag registers, PLC logic, and HMI graphics live in separate, disconnected software silos. Any upstream change requires painstaking manual re-entry across every tool.

Repetitive Manual Work

Engineers spend weeks drafting boilerplate code, assigning I/O racks, scaffolding data blocks, and generating documentation. Standard patterns are recreated from scratch on every project.

Knowledge Silos & Tribal Habits

Engineering rules exist inside the heads of senior engineers rather than in executable systems. When engineers leave, institutional knowledge leaves with them, creating persistent quality risks.

Where Engineers Spend Their Time

  • Requirements intake & scoping
  • Repetitive tag and I/O mapping
  • Manual PLC & state machine coding
  • HMI screen & faceplate creation
  • FDS, SDS, FAT & SAT manual drafting
  • On-site commissioning troubleshooting
  • Tribal knowledge handoffs

Organizational Consequences

  • Critical engineering labor shortages
  • Knowledge silos & turnover risks
  • Unpredictable project schedules
  • High cost overruns from rework
  • Inconsistent standardization
  • Proprietary vendor lock-in

Estimation Model & Key Assumptions Disclosure:

This estimator is a rough mathematical model based on Level 2 Engineering Value Hypotheses and industry project averages: (1) Baseline assumption of 1,920 productive engineering hours/year per engineer; (2) ~42% of total project cycle spent on manual I/O mapping, tag register bookkeeping, boilerplate SCL scaffolding, and manual test documentation; (3) Estimated ~75% reduction on repetitive tasks through deterministic compiler automation; (4) Standard $75/hour blended engineering cost rate. Actual time reclaimed depends on project complexity, software reuse, and target hardware architecture.

The Critical Failure Point

The true cost surfaces during Commissioning.

When requirements and code errors slip past early phases, they harden into bugs on the factory floor. Fixing a control fault during on-site commissioning costs up to 50× more in delayed production and engineering overhead than catching it at design time.

Why Deterministic AI Matters in Automation

Industrial control systems cannot tolerate probabilistic hallucinations. Here is how AUTO-X compares against manual programming and generic consumer AI.

Capability DimensionTraditional ManualGeneric LLMs (ChatGPT / Copilot)AUTO-X Deterministic Platform
Syntax & Language Typing
Manual coding; prone to typos & unmapped tags
Stochastic hallucinations & invalid vendor dialect syntax

Identical inputs produce mathematically identical output code
Standards Enforcement
Manual adherence to internal company conventions
Subjective textual advice without compiler verification
Hard mechanical compiler gates (IEC 61131-3, ISA-88, ISA-18.2)
Vendor IDE Integration

Proficient in Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, Schneider EcoStruxure, and international standards (IEC 61131-3, ISA-88, ISA-95, ISA-18.2, IEC 62443). AUTO-X was designed to eliminate the repetitive friction and knowledge silos that control engineers face every day.

Engineering Culture

Our Guiding Principles

The rigorous standards and safety tenets that govern every product decision at AUTO-X.

Engineering Intent First

We start with structured engineering requirements, not loose prompts. The unified model is the single source of truth for everything that follows.

Amplification, Not Replacement

AUTO-X amplifies engineer productivity, never replaces them. Human engineers retain complete authority over every critical decision.

Deterministic & Safe

Identical inputs produce mathematically identical outputs. AI proposes, engines verify, humans approve: no surprises during plant commissioning.

Standards as Hard Rules

IEC 61131-3, ISA-88, ISA-18.2, and IEC 62443 are encoded as mechanical compiler validators, not subjective suggestions.

Verification First

Getting it mechanically right is more important than moving blindly fast. Every line of code passes syntax, type, and gate checks.

Evidence-Driven Governance

Assumptions are labeled as assumptions. No manufactured precision. Customer evidence and formal validation drive all product milestones.
